Congratulations to Art Riome

14' Fisherman
Hi John,
Longtime coming, but “Selassie” is almost ready to go. I missed my personal
deadline of May 28th for having her afloat, but…Hey! Sensibility got a hold of
me, and I came to the conclusion that I wasn’t going to mess up an eight month
project by rushing the finishing of it in the very last stages. It has been a
pleasure, and even a passion building your design. As far as details go, the
plans were enlarged by 25%, making her 13䄀” LOA and 54” across the beam. I like
the size, although I may have to build another smaller version that I can handle
by myself…hmmm. Maybe next winter. The hull is all clear western red cedar, and
the gunwales and trim bits are Honduras Mahogany, with seat frames made of red
oak.
I have attached a series of pictures that lead up to this point, and will send
one more once the spar varnish and bronze goodies are all installed. I suspect
that 10 more days will see me dropping a line over the side at my favorite
fishing lake.
I’m not sure whether I’m just slow and methodical, or … ? , but the project
seems to have taken well over 500 hours…none of which caused me to curse or pull
any hair out. It has been fun all the way.
Best regards,
Art Riome
