16' Classic Canoe

Dear John:

Enclosed are some preliminary photographs of the Classic Canoe (16 ft.) which I have
just completed. Others will be forwarded soon.

My wife and I had the pleasure of launching the canoe this week in a nearby 10 square
mile lake. I can report to you that the performance of the Classic Canoe is delightful. It
responds instantly and tracks beautifully even in 15-20 kt. wind conditions. I have
included a photo of my new seat supports and a brief description of their installation.
Detailed photos of these seats will follow.

The construction was straightforward and followed your manual. I used metal snips to
rough-cut the strips and then a block plane to fit them. As you can see, the strips were
laid parallel to the waterline. Your manual was so complete that I did not feel the need
to consult with you during the build phase. Although I had prior aircraft methods
engineering experience with polymer lamination and fabrication, I had no direct,
practical wood working or Epoxy experience before this project. Judging by the very
positive local comments, the results speak for themselves.

I placed my strongback on small wheels so it could be moved out of the garage for
sanding operations. In addition, each station mould can be easily removed and stored
for later use while a different boat is being constructed.

Future modifications will include a removable, on axis, no installed hardware, electric
trolling motor drive. Your low hydrodynamic drag computer design affords over six
hours of fast, hull-speed cruising with a moderately sized battery.
Thanks again for the great design!

Michael Bolser

Note:  Notice that in the 3rd picture to the right the seats have been placed lower in the hull.  There will be a noticeable lack of stability if the seats are placed to high in the hull...John
