8' Classic Dinghy

Congratulations to Richard Whitney
of Hollywood, MD

Dear John,

I recently completed construction of an 8' classic dinghy and would like to order a hull identification plate. Enclosed is a check for $20.00.  I ordered the plans in September 2001, began construction in October 2001 and finished this month.  I chose the 8' design because the dinghy will be used as a yacht tender. The boat is constructed of red cedar (stained mahogany red) with mahogany seats and trim.  The center seat is removable while the forward and aft seats are foam filled (for flotation) and permanent. The only real construction problem I experienced was making the turn at the chine (from side to bottom) in the center of the boat. The curvature required the strips to twist and bend simultaneously and they invariably broke every time. (this might have been prevented if I had a way to steam them) I overcame this by splicing the strips

Sincerely,

Richard M. Whitney    rwhit323@aol.com
